About the Artist
As a child in Upstate New York, I was captivated by our garden, a magical place filled with organic wonders made by God. I was particularly enthralled by the spiral pattern seen on the sides of snail shells, as they worked their way to the middle. Flower pedals were of particular interest as they formed circular patterns in differing configurations, all coming together in the center. Moss was (and still is) an incredible curiosity as it's found growing on rolling rock formations and wood, occasionally passing brightly colored toadstools, mushrooms or puff balls. Following moss as it works its way up the trunks of trees could be a challenge. Often it passed over gnarled and irregular surfaces, bypassing the concentric circles of the burls to reach the branches, covered with leaves whose veins twisted and turned with symmetrical elegance. My love for the appearance of organic substances has been a constant and never diminishing passion as long as I can remember. It has shown itself in almost every aspect of my life as I attempt to live in, and create sculptures depicting the softness of the flowing, twisting, and curving motion of nature, often including human elements. I'm passionately enamored with the softness of organic material and my goal is to create work that portrays the irregular, non well-defined edges, and asymmetrical appearance of substances from the organic world. Attempting to create a piece that looks natural, flowing, soft or calming; I generally sculpt irregular shapes, staying away from geometric forms that seem to create symmetry, but also a sense of chaos, anger or rigidity. However, geometric shapes may also be used to create abstract interpretations of things that would normally be depicted as organic in appearance. I would love to know your thoughts relating to the organic world. Please contact me: pammurphysculptor@gmail.com
